Store Policy
The rules of buying and selling on Gear Depot — accept these to use the marketplace.
Effective
Accepting this policy
This Store Policy is a binding agreement between you and Gear Depot. You accept it when you create an account, alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. It sets out how orders, shipping, pickup, fees, and conduct work here. If you do not agree, do not use the marketplace.
A protected marketplace
Gear Depot exists to make high-value used AV and production gear safe to trade between people who do not know each other. Every listing is reviewed by our staff before it goes live, sellers can be verified, and checkout is protected. These protections only apply to orders that are placed and paid for on the marketplace.
Protected checkout and the payment hold
When you buy, your payment is captured and held by the platform — it is not paid to the seller at checkout. Once the item is delivered (or picked up), a 72-hour inspection window opens. If you do not raise a problem in that window, the funds become eligible for release to the seller. If something is wrong, open a dispute within the window and payouts are paused while our staff review it.
First-payment-wins
Listings sell on a first-paid basis. A listing stays available until an order is actually paid for — adding an item to your cart, or having an offer accepted, does not reserve it. Someone else can still buy it until you complete payment.
Shipping
Sellers are responsible for packing items properly and shipping within the handling time shown on the listing. Where you buy a shipping label through us, tracking updates drive the order status and start the 72-hour inspection window on delivery. Larger items may ship by freight, which our team prices for your delivery address.
Local pickup
Some listings offer local pickup. When you choose local pickup at checkout, you are agreeing that the item is pickup only and will not be shipped to you — you arrange to collect it from the seller in person, and checkout charges $0 shipping for that item. We ask you to confirm this explicitly before you pay, because a pickup order has no tracking and no carrier delivery.
- Coordinate the pickup time and place with the seller through on-platform messaging — never move the conversation or the payment off the marketplace.
- Your payment is still held and your 72-hour inspection window still applies once you have collected and confirmed the item.
- The exact pickup address is shared only after payment is secured.
Fees
Browsing, listing, and buying are free. When an item sells, Gear Depot charges the seller a transaction fee of 5% of the item subtotal, with a minimum of $5 and a cap of $750. The fee is calculated on the item price only — shipping and insurance are excluded — and is deducted from the seller's payout. Payment processing is handled by Stripe, whose own fees may apply to sellers.
Keep transactions on the marketplace
Buyer protection, dispute handling, and payout guarantees only exist for orders that complete here. Do not arrange a sale that is paid for somewhere else, and do not exchange contact details in order to do so. Messages are screened for this, and attempts to move a deal off-platform can result in restrictions or account closure. This is not a formality — off-platform payment is how buyers in this category get defrauded, and we cannot help with a transaction we have no record of.
Prohibited conduct
- Listing items you do not have, do not own, or cannot deliver.
- Misrepresenting condition, authenticity, or what is included.
- Fraudulent payments, chargeback abuse, or money laundering.
- Harassment, threats, or abusive messages.
- Scraping, automated data collection, or attempts to break or overload the site.
- Manipulating reviews, offers, or search ranking.
Enforcement
We may decline, edit, or remove any listing, and we may suspend or close accounts that violate this policy, that we reasonably believe are being used for fraud, or that put other members at risk. Serious or repeated violations can forfeit the protections described above.
Changes
We may update this Store Policy. If a change is material we will update the effective date above and may ask you to accept the new version. Continuing to use Gear Depot after a change means you accept it.
